2015 is a banner year for nonfiction films

heart of the seaI’ve been quiet as far as my posts on this site are concerned. The demands of my schedule and my own projects have prevented me from posting as much as I would like. But that hasn’t stopped me from reading and seeing some great nonfiction stories. If you’re looking for some recommendations after seeing the latest Star Wars film, here are a few that might also end up at the Oscars.

Bridge of Spies – Steven Spielberg directed and Tom Hanks starred, need I say more. This was a superb film from beginning to end.

Spotlight – The true story of the Catholic Church’s cover-up of pedophile priests.

Trumbo – The story of Hollywood blacklisted writer Dalton Trumbo. Bryan Cranston’s portrayal is an Oscar worthy performance.

In the Heart of the Sea – I don’t know what the critics didn’t like about this film, but I loved it. I also loved the book. This is a fascinating story well told.

The Wrecking Crew – A documentary about studio session players in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. Available on Netflix. See it.

I know I’m leaving some films out, but I have a number of other films on my must see list.

Steve Jobs

The Walk

The Big Short

Concussion

The 33

All of the films listed that I did see will be on my best of 2015 list in January.
