The book starts off promising as it tells the story of Henrietta Lacks and how some tissue samples taken from her while she was undergoing cancer treatments eventually led to the discovery of a cell line that is able to grow indefinitely.
What happened next is even more ridiculous. They threatened to bring charges against Tommy’s son and wife if Tommy didn’t agree to a plea deal. Just say your guilty, Tommy. We won’t charge anyone else but you, and you won’t have to go to jail. Now anyone with any common sense could look at the facts of the case and see that this was a case of entrapment. But this was the federal government. Going up against the government, with their unlimited resources, would have been risky and so expensive that it could have wiped Tommy out for good. Not to mention that his son and wife would have fallen victim to the same injustice system.

This is the story of Jack Kevorkian and his efforts to promote physician assisted suicides. Al Pacino plays Kevorkian. John Goodman plays the medical equipment supplier who assists Kevorkian once his medical license is revoked. Susan Sarandon also stars as an advocate of assisted suicides and eventually is faced with having to make the decision for herself.
I haven’t seen as many films or read as many books as in past years, but here is my best of for 2010. These are books and films that I saw this past year and may or may not have been released in 2010.
Review of the HBO miniseries The Pacific Rating ***** I don’t watch very many miniseries. They take too long. But this is one miniseries that I watched every minute of.
