Crazy in Texas Part Four

It’s been a while since I made a “Crazy in Texas” post, but the recent nonsense from Greg Abbot and a wave of downright puerile political adds from Texas Republicans has forced me to speak out. First up is our MAGA crazy Governor. His most recent culture war now is that he doesn’t want Texas schools to allow their students to protest the Trump administration. “Schools are for education not political indoctrination,” our Governor had to say. This from the same guy who is requiring schools in Texas to have a Turning Point USA chapter in every Texas high school. You know, the organization pushing ideas of white privilege.

“Let me be clear, any school that stands in the way of a Club America program in their school should be reported immediately to the Texas Education Agency, where I expect meaningful disciplinary action to be taken place for any stoppage of TPUSA in the great state of Texas,” Abbott said

Next up is the silliness I have to endure every night from an endless supply of rightwing politicians who also seem to have an endless supply of money to put out their MAGA political ads. They all have one thing in common; they all want to be associated with President Trump. “Endorsed by President Trump, “all of their ads say. “I stand with President Trump in keeping are borders safe,” is another common theme. Don’t they know that Trump is in the toilet. It’s like they’re all in lifeboats trying to get back on the Titanic. And then to top it off, their ads are just plain stupid. One ad for a guy named Paul Bondar has an add that starts by saying that Trump is a big man and so is Paul Dunbar. How about just saying your fat. Then there is one guy, Mayes Middleton, who wants to replace our already loony Attorney General Ken Paxton by running ads where he pronounces that he is MAGA Mayes Middleton.

These Republican politicians are all about culture wars. Not one of them proposes to do anything for the people of Texas, except maybe keep woke books out of schools or be tough on illegal immigration (another losing position). Our current Senator, John Cornyn, has ads running saying that he is against Sharia law in Texas, as if that is real concern.

We can’t get rid of them. They keep popping up on ballots like cockroaches. They’re supported by MAGA donors with endless supplies of cash. It’s an endless loop of give me money and I’ll pass laws favorable to your position, like not allowing cities to ban fracking. The end result is we have a completely incompetent state government who spends all of their time pushing conspiracies and passing nonsense laws like not allowing rainbow-colored crosswalks. Meanwhile the state’s restrictive abortion ban is having a negative effect on women’s health with significant rises in infant mortality, sepsis, and other pregnancy related women’s health issues.

The Republican party is a full-blown cult with a crazy man at the center. I hope we take the house and senate in November. Let the impeachment proceedings begin. Trump is destroying our country day by day and as long as we have people like Texas republicans supporting this would-be King, it’s going to take a long time to undo the damage.

As for the Democrats. I rarely see any Democratic political ads. It’s as if they’ve all given up. And I can’t blame them since Governor Abbott has done everything he can do to gerrymander the state maps to favor republicans. There is, however, one bright spot. I’m a fan of Jasmine Crockett, but my money right now is on James Talarico. He’s running against Senator Cornyn. His ads are about affordability and bringing down the cost of drug prices. The ads are smart and well made. No culture wars. No screaming and yelling. No name calling. Please folks. Vote Democrat and bring sanity back to our state and nation.
